Pewetole Island is just off the coast of Trinidad State Beach in our gorgeous Humboldt County, California. Pewetole (peh-WEH-toll) is the native Tsurai name for the rock. It is said to be the home of the southern-most stand of Sitka Spruce on coastal rocks, and has some of the most incredible tide pools at its base at low tide. I took the photo a few years back, and chose to carve it for its inclusion of land, sky, sea and trees.
The image is 11"x16.5"" and took me almost 20 hours to carve in linoleum. It is printed on 18"x24" 100% cotton archival paper.
