Reverence for Elders

Reverence for Elders

These Coastal Redwoods are located in Eureka, California’s Sequoia Park. The land of Sequoia Park was donated to the City of Eureka in 1894 as the last large stand of redwood trees in the city. Although logging did occur within the park, some of the original 40 acres of old-growth forest is still standing in the park gulch areas.

I created this image on a small scale in my preferred method, linoleum block print. However the final image is a mural (36’ x 17’) in the Melvin Schuler Sculpture Garden of the Morris Graves Museum of Art in Eureka, CA.

1-color letterpress-printed linoleum block cut.
